Connect with your community

For Rahat, community is about belonging, care and showing up for one another.

Through his everyday actions in caring for his family, strengthening community bonds and standing up for climate action, Rahat shows how leadership starts at home and ripples outward. His warmth, generosity and commitment are helping build a more connected, cohesive and climate ready Hobart for everyone.

Find your own ways to connect with your community, and together we'll make sure Hobart is climate ready.

What's the challenge?

People disconnected from their communities often find it harder to access support and bounce back after difficult events.

For some, barriers like mobility, language or confidence can make it harder to connect. Others may simply be too busy managing daily life to build relationships with those around them.

Meet your neighbours

At the same time, climate impacts affect everyone in our communities in different ways. Whether it's bushfire risk, extreme weather or rising costs, no one experiences these challenges alone. But no one should have to respond by themselves either.

Why make a change?

Grow your community.

Climate actions are far more effective when communities work together across ages and abilities, especially when those most at risk are included and supported.

Strong social connections reduce isolation and improve access to help when it’s needed most, ensuring no one is left to cope alone.

Connected communities are better able to:

  • Prepare for and respond to extreme events
  • Share resources, knowledge and support
  • Support mental wellbeing and recovery.

When emergency services are stretched, it's often neighbours who are first to help. Building those connections now means no one is left to cope alone later.

Connect with your community

Take action

  • Introduce yourself to neighbours on your street or in your building, either in person or by dropping off a Hello! Neighbour Card
  • Join or start a local community group such as a garden, street group or neighbourhood WhatsApp chat.
  • Attend a Resilient Hobart event to learn how to prepare together.
  • Set up a simple phone tree or messaging group to stay connected during warnings or extreme weather.
  • Check in regularly on neighbours who may be more vulnerable.
