Severe storms are hitting Hobart harder and more often, bushfire risk is rising, some areas are more exposed to flooding and sea level rise than in years past and as a result, insurance is becoming more costly and harder to get.

The evidence is clear. These impacts are caused by climate pollution created from:

  • burning petrol, diesel and gas
  • harmful gases from organic waste breaking down in landfill.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat, even here in Hobart. It's already affecting our families, homes, our health and our cost of living.

Across Hobart, people are already taking action. Installing solar panels, switching to electric cooking, choosing sustainable transport, reducing waste and supporting local climate initiatives. Every action helps.

The good news is small everyday actions along with bigger planned changes can cut energy costs, improve health, and help us be better prepared. And by acting together now, we can protect what we value, putting Hobart on a safer, healthier path.

See what changes you can make to help create a climate ready Hobart.

A shared plan for Hobart

The Climate Ready Hobart Strategy reflects what the community told us matters most – and where we can have the greatest impact.

It sets shared goals and responsibilities for the City and the community, because becoming climate ready isn't something the City can (or should) do alone.

In short: this is Hobart's plan, shaped by community voices and guided by evidence, to protect what we love about our city, now and for future generations.

The question is no longer who said we should act, but… what actions are you taking to help create a climate ready Hobart?
